Dee Lusby owns and operates a beekeeping business with over seven hundred hives located throughout the Altar Valley. Dee believes in raising bees naturally, with no help from chemicals. With Dee’s bees gathering pollen and nectar from a multitude of plants throughout the valley, the purity of their honey reflects the overall purity of the plant life in the valley. In the spring of 2011, three barrels of Dee’s honey, along with one from one year earlier, were tested for pesticide residue by a USDA lab. The samples were found to be free of all 171 named pesticides tested in parts per billion. This was exciting news for both Dee and other agricultural businesses in the Altar Valley.
